• Describe the key characteristics (benefits/negatives) of any discussed social media platforms.

Benefits:

  1. Social media can enrich our own sources of information, and we can get a lot of information we want from social media.
  2. You can have a more direct connection with your audience. You will get to know them better: when you get to know your audience better, you can provide them with more valuable content. You can make the content more personalized according to their interests, thereby increasing the engagement of your page and your business. We also can share our daily lives on social media in the form of posts.
  3. We can see other people’s posts on social media. You can also comment on the post, and communicate with the poster, and pass our own ideas to the poster. We can also comment and express our thoughts and opinions while watching videos or articles.

Negatives:

  1. You may receive negative feedback. People use social media to post content they like, but they also use it to share experiences they don’t like. Someone can leave negative comments on your page and share their negative experience. When someone next views your page, they will look at the comments and check for negative feedback.
  2. Social media is not good at protecting people’s privacy. Many people steal the privacy of others on social media.
  3. They also have some negative effects on children. And there is a link between increased use of social networks and a higher incidence of anxiety and depression.

• What features & characteristics of existing media technologies make it effective for personal learning?

With the improvement of social media technology, online learning has become very applicable and convenient. There is also a great improvement in our personal learning.

Online learning media are tools for cooperation, collaboration and communication. These devices allow to provide a separate amount of teaching presence, structure, learning and technical support, positioning of new roles and processes, and interaction with mentors and others. Distance online learning is now more applicable to the current environment. The current general environment trend is to shift from traditional classrooms to online learning classrooms.

• How does the discussed technology allow you to enhance/develop your digital identity/reputation?

Developing digital identities refers to working with the digital tools and networks to which you have access in your contexts in order to enable you to create and manage your own online presences and footprints, and to exercise control over your expression of this digital identity (or identities). By implication, this involves negotiating pathways within contexts.

• What are social considerations that should be accounted for?

The development of social media requires many social factors to be considered. For example, whether it is available to most people, whether children and the elderly can use them well, and whether it is harmful to them. There is also the need to strengthen the privacy protection of users in social media, so that when users use it, their privacy will not be stolen. Finally, whether the development of social media can keep up with the trend of social development must be considered for the development of the social environment. These are some of the social issues that social media needs to consider.

• What are the ways the technology tracks and uses your data – how can this be used to benefit a PLN?

On the Internet, various websites are extracted through the integration of big data, and the data of users of social platforms is tracked and used. Each website and browser will leave traces of the user’s browsing. This is also a way for technology to track and use dataThe physical method is the questionnaire survey. For us PLN, it can help us build a better network. Use these data to better build your own PLN.

• What are the strengths and weaknesses of the privacy, security and acceptable use policies for the social media platforms.

The advantage is that it more effectively protects the rights and interests of users, so that users will not be stolen due to various omissions when using the privacy and some real identities. It also protects the real identity of the user.

The disadvantage is that it is also possible to steal user information within the social platform. The insecurity of social platforms can lead to the loss of user information. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of users, it must be cleaned from within the social platform.

• Provide examples of individuals who have used a PLN to become leaders in a field of interest, discuss their presence in the platform?

Zoom is a good personal learning network. Teachers can teach by typing, video and voice, or use zoom to communicate with students more conveniently. Students can also use zoom to discuss academic issues with students from all over the world. Mattermost, which I just came into contact with, is also a very good platform, whether it is a group or communicating with a person is very convenient.

• How do they use the social media platforms to build their reputation/presence? • How will you know that your PLN is a success?

Blog#6:Closing blog

When I was working on the final project, I realized the importance of PLN and social media.I have to say that PLN was an unfamiliar thing to me at first. I learned a lot from PLN about the relationship with the social media. The using of the PLN can not only help me get konwlege from the learning network but also learn some skills from the social media. The PLN helps me chat and set learing relationship with each other in the network. The social media provide a good platform for those who would like to share or get some new things.

In a word, the PLN and the social media is important to me. If I get used to them, they will help with my work after my graduration, also, they will let me have a good sociality

Blog#4:Balancing PLN, Media Literacy, & Public Discourse

-Consider how you would curate your social media with a critical public audience.

I have to be very careful when creating my digital identity. A good digital identity can make more people interested in knowing me, but it can also make many people criticize me. On the Internet, many people are very picky. I can’t make everyone around me like my digital identity, so I choose to minimize arguing with critics and instead communicate with people who support me.

-Identify the risks and benefits of engaging with a public audience in a media space – what are the risks for a public figure or person in a position of trust (educator, lawyer, government official)?

Public figures’ interactions with other people on social media have pros and cons. The advantage is that some public figures will convey positive energy or positive things, and convey their positive and correct ideas to others. This will help others well. The downside is that something is bad. Negative emotions will be brought to social media and will cause a bad side to others.

-Consider how to best address negative replies and critiques reflective of your personal values and employer social media policy?

For some bad negative information, I will not choose to ignore it. Because everyone’s thoughts are different, it is difficult for us to balance other thoughts and comments, so for negative comments, just ignore them.

Open conversations about media literacy and factual information can create conflicts because they have different goals. Media literacy is to make information interesting and interesting to the public, while factual information puts the authenticity of the information in the first place. Media literacy leads to false news and runs counter to factual information. Therefore, there is a conflict between media literacy and factual information.

-What is the benefit of having a PLN that values media literacy?

A PLN with media literacy can make the public more interested, make its information more popular, and people will be more willing to participate in discussions, which can make PLN have a rapid impact.

PLN, Inclusion, and Community Engagement

How does social media use in public discourse potentially challenge advocacy communications?

Public discourse plays a big role in social media. There are advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that people can communicate better and convey their ideas. The disadvantage is that some bad comments can make other people feel uncomfortable and can affect other people’s feelings. It also involves personal privacy to a certain extent. There are pros and cons, so it is challenging.

How diverse is your existing PLN?

I didn’t have much contact with PLN before. Basically, I communicated with teachers or classmates through phone messages and emails. Since I started teaching online, my PLN has become more diverse, and I can choose different ways to communicate with teachers or classmates, which has become very convenient. For example, when we use zoom in class, we can communicate with teachers and classmates by voice on zoom. Outside the classroom, we can not only use e-mail, but also use Microsoft team, mattermost to communicate. My PLN has become diversified and convenient.

In your PLN, are you learning from a variety of voices?

I think in my PLN, I can learn from different voices. In my PLN, my classmates and friends are a big family. We all come from all over the world, and we all have our own language, customs and culture. We learned different things from it, and we can also introduce and pass on the customs and culture of my own country to them.

How does social media engage in advocacy communications?

In my opinion, social media is inseparable from propaganda, and social media is an important facility for propaganda and communication. For example, all kinds of advertisements are using social media for publicity and communication. Social media has also increased the spread of information between people, making it easier to meet other friends.

BLOG POST #2: V&R MAP and reflection of the questions

â—Ź  What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

Nowadays, for our students, we will use a large number of digital platforms to study, work and socialize. Such as brightspace, zoom, wechat, linkedIn, Instagram and more. Nowadays, because of COVID-19, these digital platforms are becoming more and more important to our students. Teachers will choose to teach online, and students will choose to write homework online. The digital platform is very convenient for the current situation.

â—Ź  What can you (as a student) consider to expand your professional learning network?

I think for students, blogs and websites can better expand their learning. We post our thoughts and opinions on it to share with others. You can also learn something from other people’s blogs and websites.

â—Ź  In your network, how can you create a digital identity/reputation?

We must pay attention to the protection of our privacy when creating our own digital identities. We can upload some of our daily life on the digital platform, and we can also pass on our ideas to other people. Let others know you, but you must not expose your privacy, such as phone number, ID card and home address.

â—Ź  Consider what a local employer would do if you applied for a job with them – can they search the content, is it of benefit to the career path, does it hinder the opportunity of employment?

We can apply for a Facebook and LinkedIn account. Our words and deeds will leave traces on the above, and employers will select the objects of their own minds for screening. If your language and talents are better, you can be appreciated by employers and you can have a job opportunity. If your words are inappropriate and your ability is not good, you will lose the opportunity to work and the employer will not choose you.
